HANOVER, Md. — Hudson Cook LLP, a nationwide provider of legal compliance services for the financial services industry, announced that attorney Michael A. Goodman from its Washington, D.C. office was appointed by the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association to the chairmanship of the Federal and State Trade Practices Subcommittee of the Consumer Financial Services Committee.

The subcommittee focuses on the intersection of federal and state regulation of business practices, with an emphasis on unfair and deceptive trade practices and marketing, advertising, and privacy issues.

Robert Cook, managing partner of the firm, said, “I’m both proud and pleased that the American Bar Association has selected Michael for this responsibility. His background will allow him to provide meaningful leadership to the Federal and State Trade Practices Subcommittee.”

Prior to joining Hudson Cook in 2005, Goodman coordinated the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) rulemaking efforts under the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003. He worked extensively on amendments to the FTC's Telemarketing Sales Rule and litigated FTC consumer protection cases targeting business opportunity fraud, telemarketing fraud, and deceptive marketing of consumer services.

Michael holds a JD degree from the University of Colorado School of Law in Boulder, Colorado, and a bachelor’s degree in American Studies from
Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut.
