LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y. -- DealerTrack Aftermarket Services Inc. has enhanced the functionality of its eMenu product to help dealers in California comply with certain provisions of the state's Car Buyer's Bill of Rights, which takes effect July 1.

Among other things, the legislation requires that California dealers separately disclose to consumers a detailed description and price for every aftermarket product that falls into certain defined product categories. The current version of DealerTrack eMenu now includes a free enhancement for California dealers that automatically generates and prints a separate disclosure document containing the required information when they print a final menu.

"This California legislation, with its very specific requirements, underscores how important it is for dealers to keep their F&I departments up to date with all the latest federal and state regulations," said David Trinder, president of DealerTrack Aftermarket Services.

The new California Disclosure Page of eMenu's Final Menu addresses the following California legislative requirements with respect to certain optional aftermarket products:

  • Required disclosures are displayed in a minimum of 10-point font.

  • Products outlined in the legislation are displayed along with descriptions, total price and monthly price.

  • Total cost of all disclosed products is provided.

  • The monthly installment payment is calculated and displayed both "including" and "excluding" the disclosed products.

  • Customer signature to acknowledge the disclosures is captured by the dealer manually, or it can be captured electronically through DealerTrack's DealWatch product.
