CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Vandals slashed tires and keyed the sides of 37 vehicles at Journey Auto over the weekend, causing upwards of $20,000 in damage, according to Charlotte's NewsChannel 36.

Owner Scott Hicks has operated the lot for 15 years, earning a favorable rating from the Better Business Bureau. He arrived at the lot Monday morning and was shocked to discover the damage.

"It's about half of the inventory, so they were very busy," Hicks said. "We're in the process of putting on spare tires, getting estimates, talking to the insurance company."

Neither Hicks nor local police have identified any suspects in the vandalism spree. The owner told reporters that the current downturn in auto sales has already caused his business to contract.

"[It's] terrible," Hicks said. "But I don't suppose there is ever a good time for something like this."
