How many of you sell key replacement at your stores? If you do, are you having any success?

I also wanted to call your attention to an article running in this month's issue on selling key replacement programs. Hope it helps: http://www.fi-magazine.com/Article/Story/2012/05/Keys-to-the-Sale.aspx

Good point, Snow, this product would make more sense bundled with D&D, windshield, etc. And good call on the JMA line.

Also, I like this statement in the article: “I understand. It’s hard to justify the cost if you don’t see the value. To see if it would be cost effective, do you mind if I ask you a question?”

Word for word, straight out of the JMA handbook. Gotta love it.

We signed up for a plan a couple of years ago and when the first claim came in the parts department pitched a hissy fit of galactic proportions because they make big money on keys and the payout was way below what they wanted. So, that ended that experiment.

Now, we have a couple of products that include key replacement as one of the features. For example, VW's Term Care Select which is a great product offering many different things, includes a key every year and pays pays MSRP. (Great product for leases, BTW, because it keeps customers from getting charged at lease end for missing keys.)

I wouldn't be interested in another key only product, as there are just too many things to try and get into a menu as it is. It would have to be bundled in with other products.

Kind of the same way I feel about dent & ding coverage. I wouldn't do it by itself, but Millennium Perfect includes dent & ding, windshield repair and full roadside assistance along with it's wheel & tire coverage. You get all that in one policy and one menu item.
