My main Hobby is Disc golf..here's a link. Go to course directory type in your city and state you might be supprised to find out you have a local disc golf course near by...plus theres a hot chick on the website home page that just won worlds..check it out..If you click on some of the links and lurk around a bit you will find some videos, that will show you exactly what its about,,Just like normal golf but your using disks, and metal baskets..
www.pdga.com
My clubs called the Nacogdoches Crushes theres currently around 50 players, 5 women players..Im the treasurer "phft" go figure.. I'm also the only club pro, Open division, being in the car biz doesn't give me time to hit the big tournys, but I play as much as I can and have won some big time "cash" from, out of towners coming to play our weekly mini tournys,I sort of treat them the same way I approach my customers at work, non suspecting victims. .,theres many many divisions,,from amature to advanced or amature grand masters...50 years old ++we have 5 grand masters in all, one of the grandmasters, Lynn Lightfoot made it to Amature worlds this year in noman Ok, it took him 2 years of touring and playing in pdga events to quilify,, He played horrible but came back with some great stories. And a big fat smile on his face

Pretty cool, Josh! I've really been wondering what disc golf is about. Looks like a very intense sport and must require quite a bit of skill to be good at. I collect die-cast cars mostly 1/18 scale. My wife asked me not to bring anymore home because I'm running out of storage space and they don't exactly blend with the design motif of our home. I have 25 of them in my office.
And yes, I have an assortment of glasses to keep my margarita glass from feeling so lonely.
Cheers...Marv........

Da Bear Speaks:
I've been a Civil War Reenactor for almost 15 years. Having studied history for so long it is a different way to learn history. To actually feel what it is like to wear wool in July in Virginia while toting around a Springfield rifle or spend a wet weekend in a dog tent is something that can't be learned by reading. It's not just a bunch of guys dressing up and playing cowboys & indians. We have spent years researching the unit we portray so as to properly honor those who served and to be able to teach people who come to an event. With this job I don't get out to as many events as I'd like.
Interesting aside for Josh.
A few years back we were doing an event in a state park and set up camp inside the woodline. There were these poles with rings around the top connected by chains. None of us had any idea what they were. Some kind of hay holder for horses was the best guess. Late Saturday evening some guys come walking by our camp carrying all these Frisbees solved the riddle. They looked at us and couldn't figure out why there were all these tents, soldiers, and fires on their golf course! |

| Holy **** Josh! I never knew we had a disc golf right here in town, I'm gonna try it.. Since I was in high school I've played guitar. I've got a couple of Stratocasters and a Kramer Baretta ala Eddie Van Halen circa 1985. Play mostly hard rock/metal, some classic stuff.. Played with a few bands right out of school but now its just something to noodle around with. |

Give it a shot,,don't use normal freesbees,,try and find some local's to give you tips on where to buy disc's or just find a link on the sight and buy online, you will need starter disk's, untill you get your arm in shape to snap the crap out of it..weve clocked my disc speeds out of the trap at around 120 to 140 miles per hour so don't throw towards people, it will cause stitches, need any tips I have plenty, been playing since highschool.. Trumpet player here,,bach strat, old hangs on the wall, sometimes I'll get a little crazy, and blast out some old school, house of the rising son..or some old school fight songs.

Drawing, painting, making art, viewing art, shopping for old rare books, antiqueing, and volunteer work. On Friday mornings I am a driver for Peoplecare, a local org that provides free rides to MD appts, grocery stores, pharmacy, library, etc for seniors and homebounds. I just got back from picking up my WW2 buddy vet, John, from his rehab for a stroke he is recovering from. I also have been a driver for Meals on Wheels, and that was an eye opener. I also have made laundry, cleaning, and cooking a hobby of sorts, lol. |

Pretty cool marv, Im thinking I might start collecting women in the near future... and yes its a very tricky sport, been playing 10 years at the course's in nacogdoches, took the better half of those to get my average down to 8 under..most of the guys stay around par To take a disc that weighs 175 grams and is no bigger in diameter than say a small dinner plate 8 inches, and throw it hard enough or with enough snap of the wrist and make it fly or bend around corners or over trees has taken quite some time to master. Ive been playing with some guys for years and they still don't comprehend it.
