Hey guys back again,

Question....I work 8-8 four days a week, 8-5 one day a week, and every sat except one a month 9-3. Last month I hit 19,300 rounded 5 bucks on 25 units, only got paid 2600 bucks for the month total with my salary, have no demo or any perks. I am at a small used car dealer that has late model vehicles all priced above 15k...

Question is how am I being treated in your estimation? Is there cause for a talk with the owner, granted, 6 months in the fi office and have been hitting 700pvr or higher for the past 5 months.

your views would help tremendously

thanks

PP is must reach 10k total fi gross to qualify for bonus.
its a step program that gives me a percentage of every 5k over 10k i achieve. for example

last month i made 19300 total fi gross
10000-15000= 10% or 500 max
15000-19300= 12% or 516

which equals my bonus of 1016.

Thats not enough for a small store or even for a bad month, your boss is taking advantage of you because you are green, let him know you know that too, you have to "stand up for your right, to fight and party", Whoops sorry about that, beastie boys moment, anyway you put up 20k on 25 units at around 750 per copy, had the salesmen or guys running the place before you done that it would have only grossed 6250 or so, you have to paint a picture that without you your boss would loose 500 dollars per unit gross and go in and ask for a raise, base it on unit count if you have to, ok, say the guy's only give me 25 shots like they did last month, then you should be at 20% or something like that, that same crap was done to me many years ago when I slid over from sales to finance, about 3 months in I blew my effin lid and told them I was quitting and I wanted back in sales, ding ding, 3% raise in about 5 minutes, the guy before me was making 8% more I found out later. Hell I didn't know, just like you.

By the way 10 and 12% really sucks bad for a store doing between 30 and 50 units. At both of the store I work for, everyone is at 30/30. We are small as well, 43 units last month between boats and autos.

I think if you were around 20-25% of the department gross you are doing good. A sp gets what 25%-30% or more of the front and he does'nt have the compliance to deal with, contracting and funding. on $20k gross if you made around $4k to $5k for a green pea is fair till you get the hang of it and prove your worth. Show him why you are worth it. The pay plan you are on now stinks for the hours you are working. 30% of b/e might be unreachable.

well it seems that this is an area that almost every person here has had to deal with, and i appreciate all of you helping out it really means a lot to a green pea haha.

heres my dilemma the owner was gracious enough to give me a job at a time when hobs are hard to come by especially where im at. It seems to be a touchy subject to have the convo about pay and then it may seem im ungrateful for what i do have, b/c like all of you i love what i do i just want some bank for it.

how do you handle that?

You need to test the waters to see were he stands. Is he looking for someone for long term to grow with his company or a temp. When talking about money reassure him that you are grateful for your job and maybe you can work out a more reasonable pay plan. Remember we are all in different areas so pay plans fluctuate by region. Maybe you can scale up your pay plan slightly to start and go from there. If you don't speak up you are going to be at the same money forever. If he likes you he'll listen if he is dead set on what he is paying you then it is your call what the next step is.
good luck

We pay about that to detail the cars & keep the lot organized.

9.50hrx35 (1st guy) + 7.50/hrx30 (2nd guy) = $2400/mo, thereabouts.

Also: with all those hours you're putting in... why are you working? I mean, what is the reason you work? There's no life outside of the dealership for you. You have to have balance. I wouldn't work those hours for $10k/mo, because my life wouldn't be worth living. It wouldn't be any fun.

The long hours might be because he's new. I know how long it used to take me to write stories when I first started out. Within a couple of years I could pump out three stories a day, two briefs and one feature. Maybe those hours will decrease as he gets quicker and more comfortable with the position.

25 cars a month, Greg. One a day. 4 12s and an 8, and 3 Saturdays. I figure he's got about 10 hours to do each deal, on average. It's not because he's slow with deals, it's because he hasn't made a peep about it yet.
