Daewoo's 525 dealers in the United States issued a joint statement April 8 which is being seen as a sign that U.S. Daewoo dealers are becoming jittery at the prospect of future sales of Daewoo models in the U.S. being handled through General Motors Corp.'s network, leaving them in the cold.

The statement was published in The Korea Herald and suggests, according to just-auto.com, that GM will intend to keep Daewoo's best cars - such as the new Daewoo Magnus 6-cylinder - away from the United States market and only bring one or two models to the U.S. to be sold as Chevrolets.

The Korea Herald said that an anonymous source in Daewoo Motor speculated that the United States Daewoo dealers' statement was meant to press GM to include Daewoo Motor America, a local marketing company overseeing the 525 dealers, in the GM takeover package. The source added that it would likely be too expensive for GM to maintain a separate sales channel for Daewoo cars in the United States.
