People bought new cars and trucks at a surprisingly torrid pace in April, indicating that 2002 may be another near-record sales year for the auto industry, according to the Detroit Free Press.
This is thanks, in part, to more small sport utility offerings, a modest recovery from a short recession and continued high incentives that make new cars and trucks more affordable, the Free Press said.
April's sales were in line with the recent trends at Detroit's automakers: General Motors was up a lot, Chrysler up a little and Ford was down… Total industry sales were up about 2.8 percent in the month.
