Walter Huizenga, one of the longest-serving and highest-profile auto industry leaders in Washington, has been ousted as president of the

American International Automobile Dealers Association (AIADA), effective March

31, 2003, according to published reports.

The group's executive committee told Huizenga at a July 16 meeting in Chicago that it would form a search committee for his replacement.

The changing of the guard is a crossroads for AIADA, which represents about 10,000 import-brand car dealers. Its primary focus has been to resist government policies that could harm the import-brand dealers, but lines between the domestic and import parts of the auto industry have become increasingly blurred with import manufacturers establishing more plants in the United States.
