Ford Motor Co. said Jan. 30 it was beefing up incentives on two of its top sport utility vehicles, countering a similar move by General Motors Corp. a day earlier, according to an Associated Press report.

Ford said it was increasing cash rebates by $500 on the four-door Explorer and the Expedition, as well as the Econoline and

Club Wagon full-size vans, according to AP.

Ford spokesman Jim Cain said the new deals

were a direct result of GM's latest offerings, AP reported.

On Jan. 30, GM raised cash incentives by $500 to $2,500 on the Chevrolet Tahoe, TrailBlazer,

Suburban and Express van; Oldsmobile Bravada and GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, Envoy and Savana van.
