Internet service provider America Online has announced that it has formed an alliance with online car buyers’ guide Edmunds.com to launch a new autos channel offering comprehensive vehicle research and car shopping tools.

AOL says it has also reached a new agreement with Kelley Blue Book to provide new and used car prices. AutoTrader.com content remains available on AOL Autos, including access to Consumer Reports' ratings recommendations, including safety information, say the companies.

The launch of the autos channels on the AOL service, CompuServe, and Netscape marks AOL's entry into the lead generation business, says the company.
