DETROIT--Owing to potential transmission problems, General Motors stopped shipment of some vehicles on Friday, reported Reuters. The transmissions were installed in Chevrolet Express and Silverado, GMC Suburban, Sierra, Savana and Yukon XL and W4 medium duty trucks.

A faulty pump in the transmission that could prevent lubrication of overdrive gearset bearings could have affected about 25,000 vehicles, explained GM spokesperson Debbie Frakes. The company fixed the problem immediately and resumed shipping later that day.

GM also notified 8,000 vehicle owners about the transmission problem; the company thinks only 2,000 of those vehicles have the faulty pump.
