SANTA MONICA, Calif.--Korean, Japanese and European automakers increased spending on U.S. incentives last month, according to Edmunds.com.

Korean manufacturers' spending rose from $1,686 in February to $1,889 in March. Japan's carmakers spent $899 last month, up $18 from February. European carmakers spent $1,749 last month compared to $1,596 in February.

March was the first month since Edmunds.com began reporting the True Cost of Incentives in Jan. 2002 that import spending rose while domestic spending fell. The Big Three's combined incentives spending dropped from $3,409 in February to $3,250 in March. But Detroit's automakers all raised incentives in early April to kick off the spring selling season.
