In May, auto manufacturers' incentives on new vehicles hit record levels, resulting in better-than-expected sales.

Consumers will likely find even better deals on some models in the next month or so, according to industry observers.

The Associated Press reported that consumer incentives rose an average 11.8 percent in May from a year ago, to $3,046 a vehicle, although May's discounts were up just slightly from April. U.S. auto sales increased 3.4 percent in May.
