NEWARK, N.J. -- DaimlerChrysler Services North America said it will refund any tax or lease overcharges within 30 days of getting a consumer complaint. These were the terms of an agreement made last week with New Jersey's State Division of Consumer Affairs.

According to the Associated Press, DaimlerChrysler, without admitting guilt, agreed also to pay $1.9 million in legal fees to the Division. The company also said it would tell customers about the option to get independent appraisals of wear and tear on leased vehicles.

The parties came to this agreement after 52 consumers raised complaints to the consumer affairs division.
