Volkswagen AG’s alternative to the domestic automakers’ "employee-pricing" discounts is to offer special lease deals on certain new models and 1.9 percent annual percentage rates on car loans, the Wall Street Journal reported.

In July, VW began offering a $199/month lease on base-level Jettas to undercut competitors, such as the Ford Focus. The leasing program includes the newly redesigned Jetta and Passat sedans.

The value-pricing program is intended to generate momentum going into 2006, when the company hopes to sell 300,000 vehicles.
