The recent hurricanes and resulting damage to cars and trucks have prompted more consumers to take an interest in title insurance, reported Automotive News. More dealers are offering this insurance to buyers of used vehicles.

TitleGuard Vehicle Title Insurance is run by Vehicle Title Insurance Agency LLC. Customers receive a vehicle history report at the time of sale and the insurance pays the vehicle owner as much as $50,000 in lost value if the report fails to expose a title brand. A branding identifies vehicles that have been salvaged, rebuilt, flooded or considered lemons.

Warrantech Corp., a service plan provider in Bedford, Texas, offers the coverage to its dealer customers. The title insurance is part of a service plan for used vehicles with 60,000 to 150,000 miles.
