CHICAGO – Cars.com executives said they have created an American Made Index to help consumers identify the top vehicles that are the most American in terms of parts and where they're produced.

"As the import-domestic debate rages, some consumers are interested in spending their dollars stateside," explained Patrick Olsen, cars.com's managing editor. "While many consumers understand that foreign manufacturers have opened their own assembly plants in the U.S., many aren't sure which cars are built where and what percentage of a car's parts is domestic."

The index rates vehicles based on where the parts are made, where the cars are assembled and how many are sold in the U.S., officials noted. They went on to say, eligible models must have a domestic-parts content rating of 75 percent or more, which is the minimum federal standard for a car to be labeled domestic.

Cars.com's current American Made Index includes:

1. Ford F-Series (excludes Ford F-650, F-750)

2. Chevrolet Silverado

3. Toyota Camry (excludes hybrid), Camry Solara

4. Ford E-Series

5. Chevrolet Cobalt

6. Ford Explorer

7. Chevrolet Malubu/Malibu Maxx

8. Ford Escape (excludes hybrid)

9. Toyota Sienna

10. Chevrolet TrailBlazer (excludes discontinued TrailBlazer EXT)
