Ford Motor Co. announced the recall of 527,000 Escape sport-utility vehicles after receiving reports of engine fires linked to anti-lock brake connectors, reported USA Today. According to Ford spokeswoman Kristen Kinley, water and contaminants could enter the ABS connector and cause corrosion, which in some cases could lead to smoking or melting of the ABS connector. The vehicles involved in the recall are from model years 2001 to 2004.

The recall affects 44,000 vehicles sold in the United States; the rest were sold in Europe, Mexico and Canada. Hybrid models of the Escape vehicle are not affected.
