A former sales manager for a Thrifty Car Sales in Idaho Falls, Idaho, was charged with grand theft by false promise after he duped a customer out of more than $2,000, local news outlets reported. The dealership, which is under new ownership, promised to resolve the problem.

The incident occurred in July 2006 when David Miller, the former employee, sold an extended warranty to Boyd Shirts for $2,456.95. The problem arose when Miller instructed Shirts, who had just purchased an Audi, to make out the check in his name, but failed to apply the money to the sold warranty. Instead, Miller told police he deposited the check into his account and spent it.

The incident was discovered Monday when the Shirts brought his vehicle to Thrifty Car Sales for service and was told there was no warranty on file. According to Idaho’s Local News 8 (localnews8.com), the incident was reported to police by a service advisor at Thrifty.

At the time of his arrest, Miller was working as a manager at Woodies Car Sales, which is located in the same city.
