DETROIT — Citing gains in quality and a drop in warranty-funded repairs, General Motors Corp. announced that it will extend warranty coverage for certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicles in good condition. The change is effective Sept. 13 and will extend the original three-month, 3,000-mile "bumper-to-bumper" warranty by nine months and 9,000 miles.

"This is a clear indication of the confidence in the quality and value of our cars and trucks," said Brian McVeigh, GM's manager of fleet and commercial operations. The automaker reported a 40-percent decrease in warranty-funded repairs over the past two years.

The news follows the automaker's announcement of a new discount program that will offer employee-level pricing for any new-car buyer. GM's new-vehicle sales have seen a decline of 18 percent so far this year.
