TORRANCE, Calif. -- Protecting the environment is nothing new, but you don't often associate car dealers with being focused on helping conserve energy. Scott Robinson Honda in Torrance, Calif., prides itself on taking steps to do its part to clean up our country and keep our air clean.

The dealership was one of three special Honda dealerships in California to offer the new Honda hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicle, the FCX Clarity.

The first vehicles were delivered to select customers including Jamie Lee Curtis and her filmmaker husband Christopher Guest. Curtis and Guest have owned other alternative fuel and hybrid vehicles, and they continue to seek out ways to live and advocate a greener lifestyle.

Demand was greater than supply for these new vehicles so Honda developed criteria for fuel cell ownership, included proximity to hydrogen refueling stations, driving patterns and vehicle needs. Plans call for Honda to deliver 200 FCX Clarity vehicles to customers in the U.S. and Japan in the first three years of production and leases were initiated in July.

Michael Dion, Alternative Fuel Manager at Scott Robinson Honda said, "We are excited to be a part of this ground breaking program in Southern California, and feel that the technology used in the FCX Clarity will spur the industry to adopt fuel cell vehicles on a much larger scale over the next few years."

Every year since 2004, Scott Robinson Honda has been recognized as the Greenest Honda Dealer in the United States as verified by American Honda Corporation. By promoting and selling hybrid, natural gas and fuel cell vehicles Scott Robinson Honda is committed to helping reduce emissions in California.

Jim Maxwell, general sales manager at Scott Robinson Honda says, "Selling and promoting alternative fuel vehicles are only one part of being a Green dealership. At our location we have taken other steps to encourage positive environmental activities."

The dealership has made several efforts to promote these activities.

Bottle and can recycling bins are readily accessible for guests and employees. The dealership recycles scrap metal, car batteries, tires and paper. Paper use is reduced by storing reports on a computer network instead of printing hard copies, and they print on 2 sides when printing is necessary. Lights and equipment is turned off in all unused offices. The dealership is

encouraged and offered incentives for carpooling, using mass transit, and bicycling or walking to work.

Consumers looking for information on the FCX Clarity or the environmental activities of the dealership can contact Scott Robinson Honda at 866-901-4210.
