HANOVER, Md. — Nicole F. Munro, a partner with Hudson Cook LLP, has been appointed as chair of the American Bar Association’s Consumer Financial Services Committee, part of the association’s Business Law Section. She begins her three-year term as the youngest chair in the history of the committee.

Prior to becoming chair, Munro served as vice chair of the committee for three years, and held vice chair and chair positions on the programs subcommittee.

The Consumer Financial Services Committee has more than 1,100 member lawyers practicing in the area of residential real estate and personal property finance; truth in lending; financial privacy; fair credit reporting; federal preemption of state and local laws; electronic delivery of consumer financial services; credit cards; credit discrimination and access to financial services; debt collection and consumer bankruptcy. The committee’s members represent both consumer and industry interests, and hail from private practice, government, the non-profit sector, and educational institutions.

Munro, who will be a featured speaker at F&I and Showroom’s Industry Summit 2012, attended the University of Maryland School of Law. After graduating in 2000, she joined Hudson Cook and has since concentrated her practice on consumer financial services law. She focuses primarily on motor vehicle and other personal property sales, financing, leasing and forms development. She has frequently lectured and written on federal and state consumer credit issues, including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission supervision and enforcement, ESIGN, credit discrimination, auto finance and leasing, and arbitration. She also authored a chapter on OFAC compliance in the CARLAW F&I Legal Desk Book, now in its fourth edition. Munro is also a member of the American Financial Services Association and the National Association of Dealer Counsel.

“We are very proud of Munro’s selection to this position,” said Tom Hudson, chairman of Hudson Cook. “She is a very able lawyer and a great partner. Chairing the CFSC is one of the biggest accolades bestowed on a consumer financial services lawyer. Munro will chair the committee during the most turbulent time the consumer finance industry has faced in recent memory. Munro’s extensive knowledge and experience will help guide business law section members through the ever changing legal environment.”

Munro will provide a regulatory update at the F&I Conference on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m. The F&I conference is one of four conference taking place at Industry Summit 2012, which is being held at the Paris Las Vegas Sept. 10-12. For more information, visit www.industrysummit.com.
