FRANKLIN, Tenn.  — Turning in a leased car is about to get easier, quicker and more convenient for customers of two Japanese brands. Nissan and Infiniti dealers now have a new app called RPM Mobile, which allows them to complete a lease return simply by using a cell phone or tablet.

To return a leased vehicle, a dealer can use the app on an iPhone, iPad or Android device to scan a sticker found on the inside of the driver’s side door. From the scan, the vehicle identification number (VIN) and customer’s information will pop up. The customer then confirms everything on the screen is correct and electronically signs a return-receipt.

Dealers also can use the new app to purchase a customer’s leased vehicle when the customer returns it to the dealer. Using the app, dealers simply select a payoff method, confirm the purchase and get a receipt. Then the dealer can sell the car back to the customer.

All Nissan and Infiniti dealerships in the U.S. will be able to start using the new technology this month.
