Colorado Legislature Sides With Dealers

DENVER — Every member of Colorado’s Senate Judiciary Committee voted Wednesday to approve a bill that requires all automobile manufacturer franchise agreements to conform with current franchise law rather than meet the legal requirements when the contract was signed, the Denver Business Journal reported.

Senate Bill 265 represents the Colorado Automobile Dealers Association (CADA)’s fourth attempt in five years to push legislation that gives dealers more power in their negotiations with manufacturers. The legislation ensures that dealers are not subjected to lengthy audits or required to frequently upgrade facilities under the guise that such requirements were allowed when their agreements were signed.
