Dealer Group Says Salesmen Didn’t Know ‘Clean’ Car Had 3 Claims

WINNIPEG — Birchwood Auto Group is offering $1,500 to a customer who was told the 2009 Corolla he purchased from its Toyota store was “clean,” even though a vehicle history report showed three previous claims including a $8,200 repair, CBC News reports.

One month after Blair Friesen purchased the car, Manitoba law changed to require auto dealers to disclose a car's history to the buyer or face penalties. Birchwood’s president said because the law was not in place when Friesen made the purchase, the sales staff at the group’s Woodhaven Toyota dealership was not aware of the previous accidents.
