ZURICH — Reuters reported yesterday that former Zurich Insurance CEO Martin Senn has committed suicide, the second top executive at the group to take his own life in less than three years.

According to the media outlet, Senn shot himself at the family’s Alpine resort home in Klosters. The former executive quit Switzerland’s biggest insurer on Dec. 1, 2015.

“With that passing of Martin, we lose not only a highly valued former CEO and colleague but also a close friend,” read a statement posted on Zurich’s website. “Our thoughts are with his bereaved family and friends, to whom we extend our deepest sympathies.

“Out of respect to Martin and his family, we will not be making any further comment.”

Zurich Insurance Group announced this past January that its board of directors appointed Mario Greco to the role of CEO. He succeeded Tom de Swaan, who held the role on an interim basis since Senn stepped down.
