Following its designation last fall as the “preferred
provider” of extended service contracts to the MARTA Cooperative of America, Warrantech
Corporation announced that it has signed agreements with more than 10
percent of the buying cooperative’s consumer electronics and appliance retailers.
MARTA is a member-owned retail buying cooperative in the U.S. consumer
electronics and appliance industry, representing more than 100 active owner-members with
450-plus storefronts across the country.
New retailers that Warrantech says it has signed under the “endorsed provider” program
include: DeSears, Bradenton, Fl.; Karl’s, Gregory, S.D.: Nielsen’s, Spencer, IA; Benett’s,
Orrville, OH; Grove Refrigeration, Alliance, OH; and W&B Furniture and Appliance, New
Martinsville, W.Va. Also under the new program are: Good Housekeeping, Natrona Heights,
PA; Brummel’s Furniture & Appliance, Grand Rapids, MI; Edelstein’s, Brownsville, TX;
Home Appliance Co., Massillon, OH; and L.H. Brubaker, Lancaster, PA. These retailers have
combined annual sales of about $200 million.
Joel San Antonio, chairman and chief executive officer of Warrantech, said, “As retailers
complete their existing agreements with their current service contract providers, we’re confident
they’ll make the switch to The MARTA Preferred Service Program. Those that have already
signed with us are discovering the benefits of doing business with our advanced technology
solutions such as the WCPS Online Internet-based software application.”
According to the company, WCPS Online is a Web-based tool introduced in early 2002. This functionality helps
retailers manage customer and business operations data while reducing paperwork and the
associated time and expense of administering service contracts for their customers.
