GLENVILLE, Schenectady County, N.Y. — Friends, fellow dealers and other business owners have joined forces in an effort to win a zoning variance for used-car dealer Rick DiCresce after his attempted relocation was shut down by Town of Glenville officials, according to the Schenectady Daily Gazette.

DiCresce was displaced earlier this year when he sold his former location at 95 Freemans Bridge Road to allow for the construction of a Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse. He then purchased the former site of an Enterprise Rent-A-Car location at 178 Freemans Bridge Road from nearby Salisbury Chevrolet, which was looking to downsize.

Dan Carlton, Salisbury's general manager, said that he was led to believe that DiCresce would be able to reopen his business at the new location, despite the fact that it is technically outside the zone in which used-car sales are allowed. "I want to get involved to help him out because I don’t want to lose him as a part of our community," Carlton told the Gazette.

On Oct. 27, DiCresce was officially cited for having unregistered vehicles on his property, constructing a metal carport, paving the parking lot and erecting a sign without permits. The citation spurred Salisbury Chevrolet and 50 other local businesses to sign a petition urging officials to allow the dealer to reopen at the new site. Carlton said that many of those businesses plan to erect signs on their properties in support of DiCresce.
