Month-to-month retail sales did slow down, but the picture is much brighter on a year-over-year basis, with all domestic and foreign automakers reporting YOY sales increases for the first six months of 2010.

Highlights include Hyundai’s June report, which showed an all-time sales record for both the month of June and the first half of the year. Meanwhile, Ford gained retail market share for the 20th time in the last 21 months. Here’s a breakdown by automaker.

Audi

Audi set a sixth-month sales record of 48,440 vehicles, eclipsing the previous record of 45,711 vehicles sold during the January-June period of 2007. The German automaker reported June sales of 8,601 cars and SUVs, a 14.3 percent increase above the 7,524 cars sold a year earlier.

BMW

The BMW Group (BMW and MINI combined) reported that June sales of BMW and MINI vehicles increased 11.9 percent to 23,331 units, delivering the best sales month for the company this year. 

For the first half of the year, the BMW Group reported a total sales volume of 121,585 vehicles, up 6.2 percent from the same period last year.

BMW Brand sales increased 14.6 percent to 19,182 vehicles in June. On a year-to-date basis, sales increased 7.6 percent to 100,632 units.

Sales of BMW’s used vehicles (including certified pre-owned vehicles) increased 1.4 percent to 13,445 vehicles. On a year-to-date basis, used-vehicle sales were up 4.9 percent to 83,723 vehicles.

In June, MINI reported sales of 4,149 cars, an increase of 1.1 percent compared to last year. For the first six months of the year, MINI sales were up 0.3 percent to 20,953 cars. 

Chrysler

Chrysler Group LLC reported total U.S. sales for June of 92,482 units, up 35 percent from the 68,297 vehicles sold in the year-ago period. For the first six months of the year, the automaker posted sales of 527,219 units, up 12 percent from 471,197 reported in last year.

The automaker’s total car sales in June reached 30,065 units and total truck sales reached 62,417 units. On a year-to-date basis, total car sales reached 157,849, up 47 percent from last year. Year-to-date truck sales reached 369,370, up 2 percent from last year.

Dodge brand sales were up 67 percent from June 2009. On a year-to-date basis, the brand reported 200,467 vehicles sold, up 27 percent from the 157,418 units sold last year.

Chrysler brand sales increased 30 percent to 17,893 units in June, compared with 13,753 units sold in the year-ago period. On a year-to-date basis, the brand reported 108,126 units sold, up 21 percent last year.

Jeep brand sales increased 25 percent to 20,731 units in June, up from 16,608 units in the year-ago period. On a year-to-date basis, the brand reported 126,771 units sold, up 5 percent from the 120,448 units sold last year.

Ram brand sales increased 7 percent to 16,862 units, up from 15,728 units in June 2009. On a year-to-date basis, the brand reported 91,855 vehicles sold, down 12 percent from the 104,011 vehicles sold last year.

Ford

Ford, Lincoln and Mercury sales for the first six months of the year totaled 954,745 units, up 28 percent from a year ago. June sales totaled 170,900, up 15 percent.

In June, Ford retail sales were up 15 percent from a year ago, and Ford gained retail market share for the 20th time in the last 21 months.

For the first half of the year, total car sales reached 354,882, up 27 percent. Total utilities sales reached 261,541, up 24 percent. Total truck sales reached 338,322, up 32 percent.

Ford brand June sales reached 155,332, up 16.2 percent from the 133,684 units sold in the year-ago period. On a year-to-date basis, sales reached 860,053 units, up 30.2 percent from 660,348 units.

Lincoln brand sales reached 6,318, down 11.5 percent from the 7,137 units sold in the year-ago period. On a year-to-date basis, sales reached 43,762 units, up 7.5 percent from 40,710 units.

Mercury brand sales reached 9,250, up 26.2 percent from the 7,332 units sold in the year-ago period. On a year-to-date basis, sales reached 50,930, up 14 percent from 44,694.

Total Ford Motor Company sales, including Volvo, reached 175,895 units in June, up 13.3 percent from the 155,195 units sold in the year-ago period. On a year-to-date basis, sales reached 982,951, up 26.8 percent.

General Motors

The combined retail sales of GM’s four brands — Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac — reached 194,828 units in June, a 36 percent increase from the year-ago period. Year-to-date sales for the four brands also rose 32 percent to 1,069,577 units — an increase of 258,368 units compared to last year.

Chevrolet reported sales of 141,381 vehicles in June, a 32.5 percent gain from a year ago. On a year-to-date basis, sales reached 782,442 units, up 31.1 percent from 596,932 units in 2009.

Buick reported sales of 13,133, a 52.7 percent increase from the year-ago period. On a year-to-date basis, sales reached 70,032 units, up 48.3 percent from 47,223 units in 2009.

GMC reported sales of 28,526, up 45 percent from the year-ago period. On a year-to-date basis, sales reached 152,317 units, up 28.6 percent from the 118,471 units.

Cadillac reported sales of 11,788, up 39.1 percent from the year-ago period. On a year-to-date basis, sales reached 64,785 units, up 33.3 percent from 48,583 units.

Honda

American Honda Motor Co. Inc. posted June sales of 106,627 vehicles, an increase of 6.2 percent.

For the first six months of the year, sales reached 593,909, an increase of 12.6 percent versus last year (based on the daily selling rate).

The Honda division posted June sales of 95,788, an increase of 4 percent versus June 2009. The increase was led by total car sales, which jumped 8 percent to 56,854 units sold. On a year-to-date basis, sales reached 532,792 units, up 11.8 percent from 479,696 units.

The Acura division reported June sales of 10,839, an increase of 30.9 percent versus June 2009. On a year-to-date basis, sales reached 61,117, an increase of 20.4 percent from 51,082 units.

Total car sales in June reached 62,229 units, up 7.8 percent from the year-ago period. Total truck sales reached 44,398 units, an increase of 3.9 percent from the year-ago period.

Hyundai

Hyundai Motor America announced sales of 51,205 vehicles in June, a 35 percent increase from the year-ago period. This represents an all-time sales record for both the month of June and the entire first half of the year for Hyundai.

The feat marks the 18th consecutive month of year-over-year retail market share gains for the Korean automaker. On a year-to-date basis, Hyundai sales reached 255,782 units, up 25 percent from a year ago. Sales also are on target to eclipse 500,000 units of annual volume for the first time ever.

Kia

Kia Motors America posted June sales of 31,906 units, a 12.8 percent increase over the previous June best in 2008.

The automaker reported its best sales quarter ever with 93,373 units. On a year-to-date basis, sales reached 170,069 units, up 15.4 percent. The 2011 Sorento CUV was the automaker’s best-selling vehicle for the sixth consecutive month with 8,608 units sold.

Nissan

Nissan North America Inc. reported June 2010 sales of 64,570 units, an increase of 10.8 percent from the 58,298 units sold in the year-ago period. For the first six months of the year, total sales reached 440,332 units, up 26.6 percent.

Nissan vehicles posted sales of 56,266 units in June compared with 51,994 units sold in June 2009, an 8.2 percent increase. For the first half of the year, Nissan brand sales reached 393,032 units, up 27.1 percent from the year-ago period.

Infiniti sales for June 2010 were 8,304 units, up 31.7 percent from the 6,304 units sold in the same month a year earlier. For the first half of the year, Infiniti brand sales reached 38,448 units, up 23 percent from the year-ago period.

Toyota 

Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. reported June sales of 140,604 units, up 6.8 percent over the year-ago period. For the first-half of the year, TMS reported sales of 846,542 units, up 10.6 percent from the year-ago period.

The Toyota Division posted June sales of 123,272 units, an increase of 7.4 percent over the same period last year. Passenger cars recorded June sales of 73,811 units, a decrease of 2.2 percent from the year-ago month. Light trucks posted sales of 49,461 units in June, up 25.9 percent from the year-ago period. 

The Lexus Division reported June sales of 17,332 units, an increase of 2.7 percent over the year-ago month. Passenger car sales reached 8,149 units, down 6.6 percent from the year-ago month. Light trucks recorded sales of 9,183 units, up 12.7 percent over last June.

Toyota posted June sales of 14,639 hybrid vehicles. Toyota Division posted sales of 12,706 hybrids for the month. Lexus Division reported sales 1,933 hybrids in June.
