NORTH HILLS, N.Y. — Dealertrack (div. Cox Automotive) will cut the ribbon on its new, $50 million, 230,000-square-foot facility in the Village of North Hills, N.Y., today.

Currently headquartered in nearby Lake Success, the company is one of the largest on Long Island and has committed to remaining there with a 17-year lease. Located at 3400 New Hyde Park Road, the new building will house nearly 600 employees with room for many more.

“When Dealertrack originally announced the new building plan three years ago, it was a vision driven by our team members to have a work environment that inspired innovation and collaboration, and overall health and wellness in the workplace,” said Dean Tilsley, Dealertrack’s senior vice president of finance and operations. “As we have grown over the years, we have done so with an unwavering commitment to the Long Island metro area. We are proud to offer our team members a state-of-the-art facility where they can continue to develop solutions that are changing the way the world buys and sells vehicles, and also contributes to local economic prosperity.”

The 10-acre, LEED-specified building features indoor basketball and volleyball courts, a cafe, cardio room and yoga studio, indoor and outdoor dining areas, game rooms, a walking trail, and an indoor cricket pitch, among other amenities.

In an exclusive interview with Auto Dealer Today/F&I and Showroom, Tilsley said plans for the new headquarters were already underway when Cox Automotive acquired Dealertrack in 2015, and no discussions about relocating to Cox’s Atlanta headquarters or another major city were held.

“Like most companies, we’re competing for talent. We want to attract people working in Manhattan to Long Island,” Tilsley said, noting that the cost per square foot of exercise, training, religious and maternity rooms would be prohibitive in an urban setting. “We can do that here.”

Tilsley noted that the new building stands between the Northern State Parkway and the Long Island Expressway, both of which are central transportation routes. Dealertrack will also send company shuttle buses to pick up employees at local train stations, while car commuters will have access to an 832-space parking lot and electric-vehicle charging stations. Despite the building’s size, Tilsley said it was designed with sustainability and carbon reduction in mind, and Dealertrack plans to be a good neighbor.

“We understand our role here in Nassau County and in Long Island,” Tilsley said. “All around the country, Cox has a great track record of working with local charities. We look forward to playing a bigger role in the community. We are an integral part of it.”
