PALO ALTO, Calif. — Tesla Motors expects to open 25 new showrooms this year, the company’s Vice President George Blankenship announced during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this week, according to media reports.

Half of the new retail stores are to premiere in the U.S. market, while the others debut overseas. According to AllThingsD, a Beijing store will open this spring, while plans to add Supercharger charging stations — where Tesla customers can re-charge their vehicles — across the United States are in the works for the upcoming years.

Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk was quoted in AllThingsD as saying: “Now, the tough thing for Tesla is to actually make a profit for the first time. I’m hoping we’ll have a profitable quarter this year. Shame on us if we can’t achieve that.”
