KANSAS CITY, Mo.  — American Suzuki Motor Corp. settled a lawsuit filed by Kansas City dealer Jeremy Franklin nearly three years ago. The dealer claimed the manufacturer is responsible for reputation damage suffered when Suzuki supported a competing dealer in the area, which happened to be his brother.

According to a press release issued by Franklin, the advertising promoted false advertising, which resulted in complaints filed by consumers and attorneys general in Kansas and Missouri against his brother’s dealership. Franklin said the negative publicity then spread to his store.

According to the press release, Suzuki settled Franklin’s complaint on Feb. 18 for an undisclosed amount. A representative from Suzuki was unavailable for comment.
