Volkswagen said it plans to automate up to 30% of production at a planned factory near its Wolfsburg, Germany headquarters.

The plant’s chief production officer said that in order to increase production, the carmaker wants to change the fact that assembly is still 90% manual.

The plant in question, at Trinity, will house manufacture of a new electric sedan, whose preliminary production will start in 2025, followed by full production in 2026.

The automation piece will be module-based, folding 50 parts into one using die casting and other techniques.
