Hybrids and electric models reign on Consumer Reports’ 2023 top 10 cars list.

The ranking lauds the cars, sports-utility vehicles, and trucks for their performance, safety and reliability, among other aspects. They rose to the top of more than 200 tested models.

The publication says each model represents a key vehicle segment. It chose all for their combination of road-test showings, customer satisfaction, and safety features.

Consumer Reports chooses only vehicles whose standard features include automatic emergency braking that works at highway speed and includes pedestrian detection, among other standards.

“These are the vehicles that our expert staff would enthusiastically recommend to family and friends,” the publication said in its report on the ranking.

Toyota had a major showing on the list, with four Toyota or Lexus brands included, though its perennial members of the annual ranking – the Lexus RX and the Prius – are absent because their redesigned models didn’t go on sale in time.
