The average number of sales per dealership in the United States is on track to hit an all-time record of 904 units based on vehicle sales of 16.2 million, according to a new report from Urban Science.
Urban Science says the closure of 220 Suzuki franchises was largely responsible for the slight decrease in the dealer count last year. But analysts believe the industry may also be settling into a ‘new normal pattern’ in terms of its dealer count.
A report by Urban Science revealed that as of Dec. 31, 2011, there were 17,767 dealerships in the United States, a 0.6 percent increase year over year.
Urban Science’s 2011 Automotive Franchise Activity Report indicated that the number of auto dealerships has grown by 0.4 percent, the first increase in more than 10 years.
