U.S. consumers paid, on average, $34,372 for a new light vehicle in September, up 2.5% from a year ago but down 0.2% from August, KBB reported this week.
New projections from TrueCar and J.D. Power show the industry heading to its best September sales month since 2007, with sales expected to be as much as 9.7% better than last year.
Despite higher transaction prices and lower incentives, consumers continue to show they're in a buying mood, TrueCar reports.
September new-car sales should be up by 11 percent, says TrueCar, which put the annual sales rate for the month at 14.6 million units.
Kelley Blue Book predicts overall annual sales gains of between 7 and 10 percent for the rest of the year.
