A survey conducted by Autobytel.com found that 60 percent of the respondents said that there is “no way” they would buy a Big 3 vehicle without a rebate, while 22 percent said “maybe, but it’s not likely” and 18 percent said they would buy regardless if there was a rebate or not.
When asked about what the Big 3 should do to improve sales, “improve quality” took the top spot with 36 percent, with lower prices coming in at 32 percent, improving vehicle design coming in at 22 percent and extended warranty coverage totaling 12 percent.
In addition, although auto manufacturers are rolling out programs such as GM’s Red Tag sale that actually offers its 2005/2006 models at below dealer invoice, consumers are still not likely to purchase a vehicle from them. In fact, 48 percent of those surveyed said that the Gm’s Red Tag program made them less likely to buy a GM vehicle.
