Following slow sales in October and November as well as a slow start this month, DaimlerChrysler AG’s Chrysler Group has begun offering bonuses to dealers who are willing to stock extra vehicles that are piling up in the carmaker’s inventory, according to Automotive News.
Under the terms of the program, Chrysler will pay dealers an additional $250 a vehicle, and as much as $750 a vehicle, if they agree to take a certain number of Chrysler’s backlogged vehicles. So far dealers have shown mixed reactions to the offer.
Despite better sales than U.S. counterparts General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co., Chrysler’s move indicates that they are having a difficult time pulling in new customers as well, even as its Chrysler 300 sedan and Town & Country minivan continue to sell briskly.
