FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Thirteen employees who worked for the now defunct Joe Florek Volkswagen and Audi dealership have been sentenced for defrauding customers and lending institutions.
The two owners pleaded guilty in 2003 under a plea agreement. Steven J. Fiorentino, 50, was sentenced to three years in prison while Jay J. Wigdore, 46, was sentenced to nearly five years in prison, reported Used Car News.
The employees convicted of defrauding banks, warranty companies, auto auction companies and customers received shorter jail terms or probation. They were accused of lying about the condition of cars, selling warranties the dealership wouldn’t pay for, selling vehicles without clear title and other fraud.
According to the paper’s report, Joe Florek, the previous owner, was not charged in the case. He had sold his interest in the business before the fraud case but had allowed the dealership to retain his name.
