Economy, Incentives Driving U.S. March Auto Sales
The strengthening economy and incentives from automakers kept March U.S. vehicle sales rolling at a fast pace, and may herald a sunnier outlook for the full year, industry analysts said this week, according to Reuters.
March sales will be off just 2 percent or 3 percent from strong year-earlier results, with a seasonally adjusted annual sales rate hitting about 16.7 million vehicles, the average of analysts' forecasts predicted.
Just a few months ago, some analysts were forecasting 2002 sales to fall below 15.5 million vehicles, with some predicting sales below 15 million, pushed down by a weak economy and fatigued demand from relentless dealing.
