According to Gerard Marino, company president and founder of EtchGuard International, anti-theft VIN etching can mean big profit with small numbers.
EtchGuard recently announced the release of its new VinTech 2.0 VIN etch program.
"Even though VIN etching sells for the relatively small amount of $129-$149, it allows even an average sized dealership to realize a substantial monthly profit because of its extremely low cost, under $7 per vehicle, and high penetration rate," Marino told F&I Management and Technology.
“Even the average car buyer is aware that auto theft is a business and its thriving,” Marino said. The latest FBI Uniform Crime Report (1999) showed that auto theft continues at a rate well above 1 million vehicles and costs in excess of $7 billion per year, according to Marino.
