POWAY, Calif. -- First American CREDCO is certifying its compliance with the Safeguards Rule of the Gramm-Leach Bliley Act. The company provides specialty credit reports to dealerships and the automotive industry.
The Safeguards Rule requires that dealerships and financial institutions develop written policies and procedures to protect sensitive customer data. They also must ensure that their service providers are taking similar measures to protect customer information. First American CREDCO's campaign satisfies the second requirement for the dealer.
The company's certification is based on a comprehensive internal program designed to ensure security of the data processed when a dealership orders credit information. This program includes:
Employee background screening and mandatory security training
Employee training and certification in the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)
Extensive information systems security infrastructure
A comprehensive disaster recovery plan to manage any system failures
