Ford Motor Co. is beefing up its latest incentives package, offering no payments until January in addition to financing deals or cash rebates on 2002 vehicles, according to the Associated Press.

The nation's second-largest automaker already was offering zero percent financing for up to 60 months or up to $3,500 cash rebates on most models. The deferred-payment program, to be announced Sept. 12 and available through Sept. 30, can be combined with the financing or cash-rebate offers, the automaker said Sept. 11.

"Customers who were waiting to buy a vehicle next year can take advantage of the great financing and cash rebates now with no payments until 2003," said Steve Lyons, Ford Division president.

Corporate advertising for the "Free Ride" program begins Sept. 12 with national and top 30 market newspaper print ads. Network television spots focusing on the freedom of flexibility will begin Saturday, Sept. 14. Regional and local dealer ads will follow.

All remaining 2002 Ford models are included.

According to many industry analysts, new-vehicle buyers now are conditioned to expect the incentives.
