Ford’s Internet-based purchasing software system will be phased out after four years of use, Reuters reported. The company has tried to integrate the program with the existing systems, but has decided to go back to the original systems.
Automotive News reported that Ford spent more than $200 million on the project. Representatives from Ford declined to comment on the cost to Reuters.
Reuters added that auto suppliers had complained the software was slow and flawed. Called eVEREST, the software was used to manage Ford’s business with suppliers.
Oracle Corp. provided the program to Ford in 2000. The software firm will continue to Ford on its technology projects, Karen Tillman, Oracle spokeswoman, told Reuters.
Employees working on the eVEREST project will be reassigned to other technology projects, Ford told Reuters.
