Ford Motor Co. Cancels Magazine Subscriptions in Cost Cutting Measure: Report
Automaker Says It Will Rely On Free Internet Sources for News and Information
During the the 1980s recession, Ford Motor Co. unscrewed half of the light bulbs in its corporate hallways to save a few bucks. Now it looks like the automaker is at it again, according to a Nov. 17 Automotive News story by Robert Sherefkin.
In an effort to cut expenses, Ford CFO Don Leclair has ordered employees to cancel all company-paid subscriptions to all publications, Automotive News reported.
According to the trade journal, a Ford spokesman declined to say how many newspapers and periodicals were affected or how much Ford would save by canceling the subscriptions. Automotive News morosely reported that it was one of the canceled publications.
Ford said it will now rely on free Internet sources for news and information. "This is yet another opportunity to address costs," a Ford spokesman explained.
