Former F&I Manager Sues Dealers

Duane Overholt, a former salesman, F&I manager and used-car lot owner, is bringing lawsuits against some of the nation’s largest dealership groups, reported Automotive News.
The lawsuits, which include class-action suits, target four of the six biggest public groups and the second largest private group. They allege illegal conduct at the groups’ dealerships, Overholt told Automotive News.
Last year, Overholt provided “Dateline NBC” with information used in an investigative report about auto dealers’ practices. His supporters say he reveals dealers’ unethical and illegal F&I practices, while critics call the lawsuits an attempt to get payoffs from wealthy retailers, according to Automotive News.
After working for dealerships for more than 20 years, Overholt now acts as a consultant to law firms that target dealers. Before becoming a self-proclaimed whistle-blower, Overholt estimates he cheated customers out of $33 million.
