HP announced that General Motors Corporation has selected HP ProLiant servers for 7,600 dealerships and fleet

customers across the country. Building on its ongoing commitment to

dealers, GM says it will deploy HP ProLiant ML310 servers to each site to

enhance communications and application processes for cost-conscious

replicated site deployments.

"HP ProLiant servers are an important component of our efforts

that allow our dealers to have the most reliable means to communicate

and transfer data to us," said Dan McNicholl, chief information

officer, GM North America. "This new technology will further enable GM

dealers throughout the country to enhance their customers'

experience."

According to the company, the next generation of expansion-ready HP ProLiant ML300 series

servers is designed to reduce IT complexity and improve flexibility by

combining powerful management capabilities, affordable performance,

scalability and high-availability features. The first HP ProLiant

server to use an Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 processor, the ML310 offers

out-of-the-box data protection with ATA RAID (redundant array of

independent disks) and enables users to run sophisticated applications

with reliable data protection and manageability -- to adapt to change,

conserve resources and respond to dynamic customer demand.

"Equipping dealerships across the country with ProLiant servers is

one example of how HP is working with GM to ensure that its dealers

have an adaptive infrastructure so they can focus on their business

rather than IT," said Mary McDowell, senior vice president and general

manager, HP Industry Standard Servers. "As a trusted business partner

for years, HP is helping GM make the best use of our innovative

technology and services to support their operations globally and

deliver a compelling return on IT."
