Honda, Toyota to Unveil Dealer Training Programs at NADA Convention
When it comes to quality, Japanese automakers Honda and Toyota are tops, according to most owners and industry surveys. But ask those same owners how the dealer treated them, and you'll
likely hear complaints, according to a USA Today story by Earle Eldridge.
Honda and Toyota plan to unveil dealer-training
programs during the annual National Automobile Dealers Association convention, beginning in New Orleans Jan. 25.
Honda's program, tested at 36 dealerships, trains sales personnel and general managers. Dealerships will be given standards on how to handle customer issues, including waiting lists
and no-deal pricing for hot products. Honda will track customer satisfaction and provide some incentive -- not necessarily cash -- for dealers completing the program, according to USA Today.
Toyota's plan, still in the pilot stage, also will train everyone from sales people to managers, according to Eldridge's story. Training will be offered in 14 areas, from dealership appearance to handling phone calls.
