JM Family Ranks on FORTUNE's "100 Best Companies to Work For" List

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. -- JM Family Enterprises has ranked No. 25 on FORTUNE magazine's 2005 list of “100 Best Companies to Work For.”

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. -- JM Family Enterprises has ranked No. 25 on FORTUNE magazine’s 2005 list of “100 Best Companies to Work For.”


The family-owned business is the highest ranking Florida company and the top ranking automotive company on the annual list that surveys employees. JM Family is one of only 36 companies to appear seven or more times since the list began in 1998.

“The unique relationship that we have with our associates and our distinctive, family-style culture has resulted in exceptional loyalty, remarkable achievements and innovations that consistently put us ahead of our competition in every area of our business,” said Pat Moran, JM Family chairman.


This is the first year that FORTUNE has subdivided the list by company size: large, midsize and small. JM Family ranked ninth of all midsize companies with between 2,501 to 10,000 U.S. employees.


Some of the unusual benefits FORTUNE cited in its selection include: on-site medical centers with full-time physicians, nurses and a physical therapist; free prescriptions and flu shots; a part-time gynecologist and annual on-site mammograms; on-site salon services including free haircuts and manicures; on-site dry cleaning and shoe repair services; an indoor lap pool and on-site fitness centers.


FORTUNE’s selection process includes its evaluation of the policies and culture of each company and the opinions of the company’s employees. Two-thirds of the total score comes from employee responses to a 57-question survey. The survey goes to a minimum of 350 randomly selected employees and asks about such things as attitudes toward management, job satisfaction and camaraderie.


Companies are scored in four areas: credibility (communication to employees), respect (opportunities and benefits), fairness (compensation, diversity) and pride/camaraderie (philanthropy, celebrations).

About 1,000 companies this year contacted the magazine and were recruited to participate. A company must be at least seven years old and have more than 1,000 U.S. employees to be eligible.
